My summers spent living in The Netherlands were truly unforgettable. Before my husband moved to the States (he’s Dutch) we had an ocean between us, so these months were extra special.

As I arrived in my husband’s village for the first time - I was welcomed by a lush green landscape dotted with windmills and church towers. Those months of living abroad, I experienced so many moments like this, where I felt like I’d been dropped into a postcard! 

One of my most vivid memories of living in The Netherlands was a weekend getaway to the southern, hilly part of the country. On our drive there we passed by nuns trekking through the countryside (habits on, hiking poles in hand) and every morning I smothered my croissant with hand churned butter from the local dairy farm. Our days there included walking through pastures, hiking up and down rolling hills, passing Dutch cows and lunches in the local villages. 

Even though I was an avid traveler before my extended stays in Europe with my husband - I am forever changed from my time there. I was embraced by the locals on so many occasions, but one really stands out. During the summer of 2014, the American and Dutch flags flew side by side outside the castle in Barneveld honoring our wedding celebration.
