The short answer is no, or most likely not.
With the recent loss of our best friend Balto and numerous clients with furry family members – it seems timely to touch on this topic. If you’re new around TBK – Balto was our very special Alaskan Malamute! 🙂 A few years ago, I also had clients who had to cancel a big trip at the last moment due to their dog getting seriously ill.
The biggest reason I recommend travel protection is for trip cancellation. Most travel companies have strict cancellation polices once the trip has been paid in full. Other benefits of travel insurance inlclude medical coverage (some health insurance policies don’t cover you outside the U.S.), medical evacuation (also not normally covered by health insurance), and other miscellaneous reasons (such as trip delays). Travel insurance policies can also be purchased to cover pre-existing medical conditions
But… I’ve never seen a policy that mentions pet benefits. If you have a 4 legged family member – I recommend you purchase a policy that has a “cancel for any reason” type of coverage. It’s usually not a 100% money back, but a percentage. Or, in the case of a travel vendor’s policy – their “cancel for any reason” coverage usually includes a voucher for future travel if you have to cancel.
It’s a topic you may not have thought much about – but I try to look out for my clients’ travel investments. 🙂 I hope it’s helpful!
Until the next adventure – bon voyage!
