My husband and I recently spent 3 days in the Florida Panhandle… “America’s First Settlement” of Pensacola. While the main reason for our visit was my daughter’s wing ceremony (Navy helicopter pilot!) – we also had some time to explore this coastal city. I love how they embrace the outdoor lifestyle – even in the heat and humidity of summer! Here are 3 tips to enjoy your time in Pensacola:
1. Restaurants
We had a chance to try out a few different restaurants while in Pensacola – here some faves!
Jaco’s Bayfront Bar & Grill
This is the perfect spot to grab a drink (they have some drinks only seating outside), watch the sunset, and enjoy the lively marina area.
Fosko’s Coffee Bar
We had breakfast here (it’s in downtown Pensacola) with my daughter on our last day in Pensacola. We highly recommend the Nutella/strawberry crepe and the Caprese omelette!
Bubba’s Sweet Spot
This was dessert 2 nights in a row – extra good on these hot July evenings! We tried out another popular ice cream/candy shop on Palafox, but this was our favorite. 🙂
Hub Stacey’s and Hub Stacey’s at the PointÂ
My daughter didn’t realize we had eaten at Hub Stacey’s (great corner in downtown for people watching), and recommended lunch at the Perdido Key location. We weren’t disappointed to eat here twice, as they deliver on being known for their sandwiches (get the tuna melt!).
Bavaria Pensacola
Craving traditional German food or pizza – this is your place! With a beer hall type atmosphere, friendly staff, and German beers on tap – this is a lively choice for a night out. We sat at the bar – the bartenders provide fun conversation and great service!

2. Walks
I love exploring on foot and Pensacola is terrific place to get steps in! Besides beach walks… downtown Pensacola is a fun place for walking. Besides an abundance of shops and restaurants along Palafox – there always seems to be something going on (from nightlife to weekend markets).
Adjacent to downtown is the Seville Historic District. My husband and I enjoyed daily walks in this area, admiring the tree lined streets and lovely homes.
Lastly, I recommend a trek around Fort Pickens – located at the west end of Santa Rosa Island (past Pensacola Beach). Keep in mind there is an entrance fee, but your annual National Park Pass is accepted.
3. Beaches
The closest beach from downtown Pensacola (where we stayed) is a 15 minute (and $1 toll road) to Pensacola Beach. It’s a popular area with resorts, restaurants, and numerous beach/water activities available.
If you’re after a bit of solitude – head farther west to the Gulf Islands National Seashore (for a fee or use your park pass). There are numerous pull-offs and we enjoyed our beach walk, only sharing with a few people fishing. Watch for bikes, as this looks to be a popular road for cyclists and also some closure areas for the nesting birds.
One afternoon my husband and I ventured about 40 minutes to Navarre Beach. After seeing numerous business signs using the word emerald – I understand why after seeing the color of the water here, what a gorgeous green!

No matter which beach you choose – don’t miss a trip to the beach while you’re in Pensacola. The crystal blue waters and white sand beaches are stunning!
Have a fabulous time in Pensacola!
Until the next adventure – bon voyage
