1. Make a Reservation
Especially during the busy summer travel months and for weekend trips, pre booking your tickets is a must. Luckily I had made a reservation a few days prior to our arrival, as it was sold out on the day we visited. You can purchase tickets here.
2. Your Hotel Stay
For walking distance to the Arch – I suggest you stay at The Magnolia – a boutique hotel that’s part of the Marriott portfolio (click to read my review). From here – it’s a short walk to Gateway Arch NP, the Mississippi River, downtown shops/restaurants, and Busch Stadium.
3. Photo Ops
With its unique architectural design – you’ll most likely want to capture photos of the Gateway Arch. You can get some great shots of the courthouse and Arch in the background from Kiener Plaza. This is also a good spot for the evening pics when the Arch is lit up (check for those times during your visit).

4. Account for Size
If you purchase tickets to go to the top of the Arch – keep in mind the size of the transport pods if smaller spaces aren’t your thing. The pods hold 5 people… and a very cozy ride with 5! My husband is 6’1″ and couldn’t sit up straight for the 4 minute ride to the top. If possible, don’t miss taking in the views of St. Louis and the Mighty Mississippi from this view point.
5. On Site Museum
Divided into 6 interactive galleries – the museum at Gateway Arch is very well done! The history of St. Louis and the Mississippi River is informative and presented in a way that captures your interest (I don’t have the longest attention spans in museums!).
Due to the city location – it’s a much different experience from visiting the majority of our national parks, but I highly recommend a visit to Gateway Arch National Park for the architecture and history!
Until the next adventure – bon voyage
