After the devastating fire in 2023 – Maui is welcoming back visitors. I’ve visited a few times and also planned numerous client trips to this diverse island. Along with its gorgeous beaches and abundant water sports, there are also numerous other areas on this island to explore.
1. Haleakala National Park
As a teen, my family and I cruised down Mt. Haleakala on bikes – as we watched the sunrise! During my last visit to Maui… my husband and I hiked trails near the summit and enjoyed the surreal volcanic landscape. It’s also an epic spot to watch the sunset (or from one of the pullouts on the road you drive down)!

2. Road to Hana
If you’re up for a driving adventure and a lot of curves – don’t miss the Road to Hana! This was the first time my husband and I used a Shaka Guide, and I highly recommend! The narration and tips make the trip so much fun. You can also click here to read more of my tips for traveling the Road to Hana.

3. Upcountry Maui
With sweeping views, cooler temps, fun towns, and a path less traveled – Upcountry Maui is worth a visit. We stayed one night at the Paia Inn (Paia is the gateway to this area), and 3 nights in Upcountry at the North Shore Lookout – both fabulous boutique hotels.
4. Small Towns
Maui has the cutest small towns! Put Kula, Makawao, and Paia on your list to check out. I recommend lunch in Makawao at the Makawao Garden Cafe – such a fun spot dining amongst their chickens. If you’re a wine lover – don’t miss a tasting at Maui Wine in Kula. It’s a lovely setting with a great outdoor area. And if you’re in the mood for some shopping – Paia has a fantastic selection of shops!

5. Iao Valley State Monument
For a little hiking expedition – I recommend this Hawaii state park. You’ll be surrounded in a lush green atmosphere and 1200′ Iao Needle views. Click here to make your reservations for entry and parking (you can do so 30 days in advance).
Aloha – enjoy your stay on Maui!
Until the next adventure – bon voyage!
