Last July I had a wonderful two night stay at this small, family owned hotel in the southern part of The Netherlands. The pronunciation may be difficult, but de 4 Jaargetijden translates into meaning four seasons in English. 😉 This was actually my second visit, but the first under it’s new ownership – a super friendly and accommodating family. The upgrades and renovations are immediately noticeable!
1. Location
This is one of my favorite places in The Netherlands! Close to the southern border with Germany and Belgium – you’ll love exploring the quaint villages and hiking through the rolling hills. The 4 Jaargetijden is located in the lovely village of Epen – the perfect spot for your stay in this area. You’re close to great roads for biking, hiking trails start right from the village and within 30 minutes you can be exploring the the cities of Maastricht or Aachen. 2. Rooms
There are ten rooms at this hotel, with the majority having undergone recent renovations. You’ll love the nature inspired decor and spacious bathrooms – a very relaxing place to call home for a couple nights. My husband and I stayed in a luxe room (it’s larger than their standard and comfort size ones) on the third floor, with a gorgeous view of the village. Since we both work when traveling – reliable wi-fi is always a must, and the 4 Jaargetijden’s was fast. The only negative (as with most hotels in Europe) was no air conditioning, as our stay happened to be the during the biggest heat wave Europe has experienced in years. I’m happy to report an update – during my most recent stay in 2024, airco is now included in every room! 🙂
3. Food
As with most hotels in Europe – breakfast is included. You can choose from a nice assortment of breads (from the nearby bakery), cold meats/cheese, yogurt and fresh fruit. The made to order eggs is a nice addition to the standard European breakfast! The 4Jaargetijden also has a full service restaurant and the hotel’s pretty terrace is a great spot to enjoy their locally inspired meals.
If you’re looking for a romantic getaway or an active escape – this is the perfect spot for you! I’m already looking forward to my next visit. 🙂
