The oh so confusing topic of hotel room categories! With numerous room options at most hotels and resorts – the ocean view choices seem to cause the most confusion. Here are some facts and tips on how to choose your next room.
Ocean View
An ocean view room means from some spot in your room or on your balcony you’ll have a blue view (not only sky! ;)). It doesn’t mean you’re directly facing water and in some hotels it may mean you have to crane your neck out your window to see a few waves. I’ve toured hotel rooms that are labeled as partial ocean view, but stare directly at another side of a building or parking lot – with a far off glimpse of the ocean (things to be aware of!).
Oceanfront
An oceanfront room directly faces the ocean and has direct views of it. It can be a first floor or higher level room overlooking the water. Keep in mind ocean front may not necessarily mean beach front, as it can also be cliffside or on a rocky part of the coast.
Beach Front
A beach front room means you have direct access to the beach or you’re in a higher level room looking over the sand. A beach front room is ocean front, but not necessarily vice versa. 🙂
Tips on Choosing Your Room
Keep in mind when you’re choosing a hotel room, you’re picking out a category and not reserving a room number (it’s not like picking out a cruise ship cabin – when you know your exact location). There are a few things you can do to guarantee you’ll be happy with your choice. Look for a hotel site map, search hotels/room videos on Youtube, double check adults only/kids areas at your resort, or call the hotel directly to get specific details about their rooms. Or most importantly – have me do the planning for you. 🙂
Hope these tips are helpful and please feel free to reach out when thinking about your next resort vacation!
Until the next adventure – bon voyage
