Looking back at my year of travels and adventures – it was a memorable one! For my second year of sharing TBK’s Editors’ Picks – I’ve added some new categories; such as favorite hotel stay and top beach visit.
I hope this inspires you to scroll through your camera roll and make your own list!
Without further ado – here’s my top 10 of 2019 (in no particular order):
1. Dog Sledding in Colorado
Even though this was in my back yard, it’s hands down one of my favorite things I did in 2019! I’m a dog lover and playing with the huskies and mushing the sled was an experience I’ll never forget. 🙂 I highly highly recommend doing a sled dog tour when you get the chance! Join me in my TBK dogsledding video.
2. Sunset of the Year
Being a night owl – I’m definitely team sunset. 😉 I saw some amazing ones in 2019 – but setting sail on a cruise from Port Everglades last fall was by far the best one I witnessed. What a spectacular show of color over the South Florida skyline! Click here for my video filmed on the Celebrity Reflection.

3. New Food Discovery
During a trip to San Diego last summer visiting my daughter, she introduced me to the California Burrito. Where had that french fry filled wrap of tastiness been all my life?! You’ll find it in Southern Cali… most popular in San Diego. Grab one your next visit there – you won’t be sorry… most likely really full, but not sorry. 😉
4. Best Road Trip
Last mud season (spring in the mountains of Colorado! ;)) my husband and I spent 3 weeks traveling in our motorhome. It was an epic trip through Texas visiting Big Bend National Park, Hill Country, Austin, Galveston, and lots of areas in between (view our dash cam video here). It’s no lie that everything’s bigger in Texas! 😉
5. Favorite Hotel Stay
With an ode to it’s military past (formerly the Armed Services YMCA – recently refurbished and reopened as part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio group of hotels) – The Guild was one of my favorite hotels I stayed at in 2019. With its modern styled rooms, it’s also the perfect downtown location in San Diego. Don’t miss sipping a drink at its super cool bar in the lobby! Click to read my TBK article: “3 Reasons to Stay at the Guild Hotel in San Diego”.
6. Most Unique Travel Day
On our recent Caribbean cruise we had a port stop in Panama and it was fascinating to see ships entering and exiting the Panama Canal. On your cruise stop in Panama – I urge you to take the tour visiting the Agua Clara Locks and Panama City. It’s unique to see the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea in one day!

7. Walking on a New Continent
After spending the day in the colorful, historic, walled city of Cartagena, Colombia – I can’t wait to explore more of South America! This was one of my most anticipated travel days of 2019 and it didn’t disappoint. It’s always exciting experience a new place – but it was an extra thrill to step foot on a new continent!
8. Top Beach Visited
In September my husband and I spent a week on Maui and our favorite stop to stretch our legs on the Road to Hana was the black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park. Besides the unique black “sand”; it’s a great spot to watch the blow hole and hike along the coast. Don’t miss snapping some photos – this area makes for gorgeous pics with the vivid colors of the foliage, sky, and sand!
9. Rediscovered Love of Cruising
It’d been a few years since my last cruise and after 11 nights on the Celebrity Reflection last fall I was reminded why I love it so much (read about my experience here)! Unpacking once! The views! New countries! The food! The drinks! New friends! Spoiled… and I loved every minute of it. 🙂
10. Most Bizarre Experience
Staying in Austin a few days last spring – I couldn’t miss witnessing the bat migration of over a million bats emerging from under the Congress Avenue Bridge. In all honestly – it’s a little overrated as the bats are so small it looks like black moving shadows. But – the views of downtown are pretty and it’s interesting to see the crowds of people who show up!
Cheers to all our 2019 travels! I’d love to hear about your favorite adventures – leave me a comment. 🙂
Until the next adventure – bon voyage!
