Last year during a week long trip to Maui my husband and I stayed a few nights at the North Shore Lookout. This trip I focused on smaller, unique properties and this boutique bed and breakfast was my favorite stay of this trip!
I’ll be honest… I’m normally not a big fan of staying at bed and breakfasts. I don’t like feeling like I’m in someone else’s space and I want my own bathroom…privacy…schedule. North Shore is nothing like a typical B & B! It has at the feel of a casual, exclusive small resort.
This is the most welcoming property with a friendly couple who own and run it! Sitting on about 10 acres in Upcountry Maui – it offers breathtaking views of the countryside and ocean. With only 5 suites – it feels more like a private resort (the owners’ house is nearby but separate from the guest areas).
The rooms are HUGE, beautifully furnished and no detail is left out. We stayed in the Pele Suite and enjoyed it’s amazing bathroom and shower. And most importantly – the mattresses are super comfy!!
Breakfast is included in your stay... home made breads, fresh juices, and smoothies to start the day. We especially liked meeting our fellow guests in the mornings to talk about everyone’s plans for the day.
What truly makes this B & B feel like a resort is the abundance and thoughtful design of the outdoor common areas… all with stunning views! The breakfast terrace, outdoor swing, telescope, and pool/hot tub… there’s plenty of space to enjoy some privacy or mingle with the other guests.

– local touches throughout the property… Hawaiian artwork, books, native plants, and flowers
– made to order smoothies each morning
– watching the epic sunsets from the pool each evening
– meeting other travelers and visiting with the owners about their story of moving to Maui
I highly recommend North Shore Lookout – it’s the perfect spot for couples – a romantic getaway or home base for your adventures on Maui!
