In the spirit of social media “Friday Introductions” – it’s the Travel by Kris interview! After working in the travel industry for over 25 years I’m happy to share some of my travel preferences. With an empty nest and spending more than a year sticking closer to home – I’m excited for a very travel filled next few years! 🙂
Favorite destination?
As my husband is from The Netherlands – I’m very partial to Europe! 🙂
Best packing tip?
Pack your patience! Travel requires your mind open and extra patience. I always tell people if your trip goes perfectly smooth there won’t be as many good stories to tell. 🙂
How many countries have you visited?
Not sure why – but I’ve never counted! In 2019 I visited South America for the first time and in 2022 I’m looking forward to experiencing new countries in Asia!
Favorite season?
Hands down summer! After living in my snow boots for over 6 months a year – I’m always ready for my flip flops!
Travel pet peeve?
When those sitting behind my aisle on the plane try and disembark ahead of me… ummmm, no. 😉
Colorado tip?
The Great Sand Dunes National Park! It’s a bit off the beaten path of more popular spots to visit in Colorado – but so worth the effort. Hiking on the dunes is a blast! And the contrast of the sand with 14,000 feet mountains as a backdrop is like no other!
Favorite mode of transportation?
I love traveling by ship. The sense of freedom and nostalgia, the ocean views and waking up to discover new lands – nothing better!
Beach or mountains?
Well… since I’ve lived in Colorado for 31 years – I guess that answers the question! 😉
Window or aisle?
Window – I don’t want to miss the views! I also like having something to lean against.
What travel rewards do you collect?
Marriott. I find it’s normally a better bang for the buck to redeem points for hotel rooms (I also collect Delta miles).
Do you have a bucket list?
YES! There are destinations on my list – but I find it includes more experiences (attending the Kentucky Derby and gorilla trekking to name a couple).
Favorite travel quote?
This changes frequently – but my current one is “A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.”
– Oliver Wendell Holmes
Where to next?
In 2023 we’re going to spend a few days in Tokyo before our cruise that includes stops in Okinawa, China, Taiwan and ending with some time in Hong Kong. I’m super excited about my first trip to Asia!
Until the next adventure – bon voyage!
