I recently stayed at the NEW Hotel Athens before departing on Celebrity Cruises to the Greek Isles. Since I enjoy staying at unique hotel properties – this is perfect for a short overnight! These are the top reasons I recommend the NEW Hotel Athens.
1. Location
The NEW Hotel Athens is a terrific location for a short Athens trip. Steps from Syntagma Square, the Plaka, and Acropolis – it’s the ideal spot for visiting all the important attractions in this ancient city! Being about 15 minutes from Piraeus Port – this makes it a convenient choice for a pre or post cruise stay. Lastly – the NEW Hotel Athens is within walking distance to numerous restaurants. A couple doors down we enjoyed a tasty al fresco breakfast of fresh squeezed juice and omelettes!
2. Rooftop Bar
The Art Lounge is the best spot to hang out at the NEW Hotel – the city views are not to be missed! My husband and I enjoyed the first sunset of our trip from here, an after dinner drink, and loved the overall ambience. It also offers outdoor dining or inside in their cozy lounge and bar area.
3. Rooms
For a European hotel – the rooms are spacious, the beds comfortable, and there is much needed a/c (not always standard in Europe). Adding to the modern style of the hotel – there’s interesting art made from reclaimed materials of the previous hotel. Even though the hotel is located on a fairly busy street – we didn’t hear any outside noise and the black out shades were a bonus. Fighting jet lag… a little Greek wine – we slept like babies!
