During a Greek Isles cruise on the Celebrity Apex late last summer – one of our port stops was Santorini. It was my second visit to this stunning island and this time was just as special as the first! 🙂
1. Visit a Winery
If you’re a wine lover – I highly recommend a tasting at the Gavalas Winery in the small village of Megalchori. This family takes great pride in their wine and my husband and I really enjoyed this experience. For jaw dropping views – don’t miss a stop at Venetsanos Winery.
2. Taste Local Cuisine
On our visit to Santorini last summer we took a fantastic tour! With a small group of 8 people – our local guide showed us her family farm where we cooked a meal together (using ingredients from their land). Sitting outside under the olive trees and drinking Greek wine with our new friends, is now one of my favorite travel memories!
3. Visit Oia
This is where you’ll find those famous views of the blue domes overlooking the Aegean Sea! Be prepared for the crowds… this is the most popular spot on Santorini. As you meander the alleyways – make time to stop for the numerous photo ops. If you’re a shopper – this is also a great place to part with some of your Euros. 😉 When you need a break – step inside the prime location of Melenio Cafe for the cliffside views (I recommend one of their crepes). TBK insider tip: they have free restrooms on their lower level.

4. Watch the Sunset
This is THE thing to do on Santorini each evening! I will never forget the sunset during my first trip to Oia – rooftop dining, savory Greek food, along with magnificent views. What a magical way to end a day!
5. Transportation Options
My first time to Santorini I rented a car to get around, as it’s a small island and a fun way to explore! Last summer my husband and I took a taxi (through the Uber app, as it was a busy day with few available cabs to hail) from the main town of Fira to Oia. If you sign up for any type of island tour; the majority include transportation (for our small group farm/winery tour we were driven around in a nice air conditioned van).
Santorini is a spectacular place to visit! I encourage you to get off the beaten path and meet the locals to experience this unique island.
