Two years ago I discovered the allure of Moab, Utah. Living only a few hours away in Colorado – not sure why it took me years to experience this gem for myself! Don’t wait as long as I did – I can’t rave enough about this special area where desert, red rock formations and the Rocky Mountains meet! These are 3 things I recommend during your visit to Moab.
Experience an Off – Road Adventure
Moab is a mecca in the 4 x 4 world! Slickrock is their famous area for off road touring and driving (one also has to share the “road” with mountain bikers). My husband and I took the Hell’s Revenge Trail guided ATV tour . So. Much. Fun. Not knowing the trail or area we were happy to have a guide, but loved getting to drive our own ATV. My husband didn’t have all the fun – I drove the same route on the way back! I highly recommend T-Rex 4 x 4 Tours – we had a knowledgeable and friendly guide, good equipment and easy to sign up and departure from their office on main street.
Visit a National Park
With red sandstone arches, you’ve probably heard of and seen the gorgeous photos of Arches National Park. It must be experienced in person to truly appreciate how spectacular it is! Click here to read my tips about visiting Arches National Park. The lesser known Canyonlands National Park is about 40 minutes from Moab. With its colorful canyons and mesas it’s a beautiful landscape also worth your visit!
Ride a Bike
If you’re a mountain biker – you’ll enjoy the endless variety of trails around the Moab area. There’s also opportunities for road biking (100 miles of paved trails) as my husband and I cycled the paved trail between Moab and the entrance to Arches National Park. We also enjoyed the turnoff that winds through the canyon following the river.
