The Magnolia Hotel in Denver recently underwent a 4 year renovation of its 1910 historic office building – which originally housed a bank. It’s now part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio group of independent hotels.
In early May my best friend and I stayed at The Magnolia for a girls weekend. I’ll start with the good stuff about this hotel! 🙂
Within walking distance to Union Station, 16th Street and all the fun things to do in downtown Denver – the Magnolia Hotel location is on point. Since parking is always a hassle when staying in a city center – it’s made easy here with the attached public parking garage.
The staff was super friendly and we felt safe as the entrance was locked except to those with hotel keys. Trendy Harry’s Bar is also in the lobby of the Magnolia and has a cool atmosphere. I can’t vouch for the service or drinks as we didn’t hang out there this visit.
Our room with 2 queen beds was comfortable and we loved the old large windows with city views! The Magnolia was also pet friendly as we saw numerous dogs in the hallways.
There are a few things I think The Magnolia could use some improvement upon. The lighting in the rooms and bathrooms isn’t enough – both were very dark. The bathrooms are also small for a hotel in this category. Since we stayed in May 2021 as Covid restrictions were only starting to ease up – there weren’t any cleaning protocols listed in the rooms or at check in (there was hand sanitizer in the lobby). The reusable toiletries in the shower also weren’t refilled and completely empty… which led me to question how well the room had been cleaned before our stay.
I enjoy staying at unique hotel properties and appreciate the stories behind renovated buildings… but this wasn’t my favorite hotel I’ve stayed at in downtown Denver.
